Welcome
I began my artistic journey as a sculptor and painter. The photographs I took were references for the sculptures and paintings. My interest in photography developed over time, when I realized these images, themselves, were beautiful. In further exploring this medium, I found a new medium in which to express myself.
Photography is my looking glass on the world. It grants me a view of the complexities in the simple. This idea is so intriguing to me. One can be afforded a different interpretation of the same subject simply by changing the angle of one’s viewpoint.
In photographing a flower, I look for the color, structure, texture and feeling of visual movement. I want to capture its fragility and paradoxically, its strength. Most importantly, I strive to capture its energy. In all of my subjects, I want to reveal these things.
Originally, I was introduced to film photography and I processed my images in a darkroom. With the advent of digital photography, I now can work with my images on the computer. I can transform my original images through collage, drawing and layering to produce a kaleidoscopic effect. My digital artwork reproduces familiar visual symbols into new conceptual layers. These layers suggest familiarity and produce a wide range of emotions, while colors and shapes establish a dream-like quality. My desire is to invite the viewer to move into a space of familiar visual symbols that are embellished to form new images as a progression of thought.
Through my work, I seek to give thanks, praise and honor to the subjects I endeavor to present.
